Following the murder of a 33-year-old man on Saturday in Strasshof an der Nordbahn (Gänserndorf district), the alleged perpetrator was taken to the local prison by order of the Korneuburg prosecutor’s office. The investigation into the crime and motive is still ongoing. According to a statement from the Lower Austrian State Police on Sunday, the murder weapon, a pistol, was confiscated from the confessor’s car.

The 35-year-old man reportedly shot his ex-partner in the street in front of her home at around 1.30pm on Saturday. Witnesses alerted emergency services and despite immediate resuscitation efforts, the 33-year-old man died at the scene. The suspect, who no longer lived with the woman, fled but soon surrendered to the Deutsch-Wagram police station and was arrested there.

The weapon was then found in the 35-year-old man’s car and he was taken to Korneuburg Prison. The prosecutor also ordered an autopsy on the body. Investigations and questioning were said to still be ongoing on Sunday.

Maria Rösslümer, managing director of the AÖF association and coordinator of the “StoP districts without partner violence”, missed the “government protest” regarding the 22nd femicide in Austria this year. The government’s silence on the recent killings of women is “protection of criminals and a form of disrespect for women,” Rösslümer said in the broadcast. The association called for the immediate development of a common strategy and the creation of “StoP” in all communities.
